Aiken has an undeniable charm that attracts both visitors and residents alike. Much of this charm is directly attributable to the preservation efforts our community puts forth.

As 2019 marks the centennial of the founding of the Fermata School for Girls, the Fermata Foundation, a 501c3 corporation, has been formed to implement the three Rs – restoration, renovation and reuse – so that the community as a whole can honor the school’s past – and rejoice in its future.

 

Historically and architecturally significant, the Fermata School has a story to tell, and returned to its glory, will set the stage for many stories to come as Aiken’s new homeroom for meetings, weddings and events. We invite the entire community to roll up their sleeves and sharpen their pencils as we restore this historic school gymnasium into a true city gem.
